At least 2,000 children, the majority of which are below age 5, die every year at the hands of their abusive parents. Another 18,000 are disabled and 142,000 are seriously injured. The U.S. Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect concluded that violence in the home is as much a danger to young children as bullets are to teens.
