Unlike other sites closely linked by "genre", Newgon.com serves mainly a public function and not predominantly one of peer-support. The site aims to make unpopular but crucial information on adult-minor sexualities readily available to the public. Organised via a discussion forum and private emails, the level and scope of activity on Newgon.com can be compared to that of a small membership or nongovernmental organisation. The site has also helped to bring about some positive results in real life. Central to the mission of Newgon.com is its vast database of anecdotal material relating to the sexual experiences of non-emancipated youth.

===Usage and costs===

Over the last year, the number of visitors to and active members of Newgon.com has been increasing steadily. In just over a year, the Forum has seen 5,000 posts. The site itself is typically visited 250-550 times a day (avg ~400 for Jan, 09) and is due to break it's own record for unique visitors at well above 6000 for the month. These are respectable figures for a site that does not promote itself with colourful pictures, social networking or traditional peer support. [[Newgon.com]] was founded on Jun 8, 2007 after a small but militant hate group successfully lobbied [[Google]] to remove a number of free websites pertaining to the sexuality of young people under the age of consent and those who are attracted to them. The site was established as a small set of files - mainly part of the [[Debate Guide]] project and a weblog managed by a team of eight or so volunteers - now a quarterly webmagazine. As the site grew and the number of participants and proposals increased, administrators sought to develop more advanced and user-friendly ways of managing the site. By the start of 2008, a forum was in place, followed by the installation of MediaWiki later in the year. The current site is home to discussion groups both public and private, multiple public advocacy projects and a growing encyclopedia of topics relating to adult-minor sexuality.

I will be leaving the administration of Newgon.com on the 24th of January, 2009, and severing all contacts forged through this website and the wider community. Whilst I would not like to disclose the reasons for this decision, it is in no way related to the limitations of this website, integrity of my pseudonymous identity or legal status IRL. I have come into contact with many interesting and constructive people via this site, and I thank them all for participating here and helping me with numerous problems that would otherwise have put a lot more stress on myself.

I maintain that Newgon is unrivaled in the community for its commitment to activism. Its status as such is largely due to Juan's hard work since the site's inception, to make it as strong as it has today become – together, of course, with the intellectual input of our ever-growing membership. I sincerely hope that others will now step up to conserve Newgon's strengths, and perhaps take it in new directions...

I've greatly enjoyed being involved with Newgon, and thank all the members for their diverse contributions, the energy and insight of which has been tremendously encouraging.

There are a number of simple tasks that need completing. The theme change for MediaWiki is still complete Navbar headers need to change colour - yellow is a possibility. Wiki logo needs to be developed into something simpler, narrower and easier to read. Again, a bright colour - white - is a possibility. This should be integrated into the Wiki home page. MediaWiki needs a functioning category tree extension (this was tried once, but it failed) and could benefit from Wikipedia-style predictive search results.

Newgon.com needs one or two new active administrators to take the pressure off the two who remain. Applicants should have a good reputation and at least basic administrative skills and the will to learn. If you would like to be considered, you can contact us via the forum or by e.mail.

Every 15 days, at least two administrators should be able to sign the following checklist:

:I have access to the Newgon account on nearlyfreespeech.net. I hold admin details that allow me to manage the site via FTP.

:I receive account balance warnings from the host, to a regularly checked email address. I have made sure that the account is topped up with funds from myself or available charities [please enquire].

:I have backed up the database and hold a personal copy. I have an up to date version of the site files for at least newgon.com.

Administrating the site may or may not involve communicating with the public. At the present moment, we have one admin who acts in this role. Ideally, there should be at least two. No administrator is obliged to maintain a public face on any section of the website, although participation is always appreciated.

*Set up a new website that uses a symbol and flag voted on by the wider community. Have at least five other websites using the symbol and linking in. It has been suggested that we could claim accountability for such a symbol if the same communities were allowed to vote on these proposals in some way. We also have links with an administrator whose community forum has hosted discussions on setting up a publicly accountable discussion group that can be contacted by members of the public. Considering the fact that we intend to use to use the symbol/flag site in linking to intellectual/cause related websites whilst being linked from sympathetic peer support communities, it would be a natural counterpart for the above mentioned project.

*Better the format of and extend the range of our [[Pamphlets & Promotional Media|promotional media]] by working on new issues and making pamphlets easier to download and produce (pdfs). This is an ongoing concern, but we may at any one time have all pamphlets properly converted to pdf.

The wiki was set up to make newgon.com more flexible and help us in developing a factual community resource (central to which is an encyclopedia). We need to make clear that the restriction on editing is only because we need to moderate trolls and not those who honestly seek to improve the resource and its subprojects.

*Establish professional-class web portals: Encyclopedia, Debate Guide, Research, Testimony (achieved), Legal Information and National Profiles. Give them appealing and functional interfaces a la the homepage. Have active feedback forums pertaining to recent changes in applicable portals.

However, we often find that individuals working in law enforcement see the persecution of child lovers as being in the "spirit of the law", scrutinising even the most above-ground CL website, logging posts and sometimes even working from vigilante intelligence.

It should go without saying, that exposing yourself in RL as a child lover may have serious and life altering consequences. Once this information is public, you have no control over it, and it may haunt you for the rest of your natural life. Even if you are not presently concerned about the spread of information regarding your attractions, it is always useful to consider how such information may be used against you in the future - for example if you are presently a teenager.

In this time of vigilante decoys, online security is more important than ever. We want to remind everyone that just because a person claims to be something, does not mean they are. Also, just because someone is registered on this forum and possibly others, does not mean they are actual Girl Lovers or Boy Lovers.

Unfortunately, we live in a dangerous time, where our enemies would destroy us without a second thought. Given the motivation and the unscrupulous nature of our enemies, a healthy skepticism towards even posters with whom you have become friendly is warranted. In particular, some of those enemies are from Perverted Justice (PJ), whose main goal is to expose the various members of the Child Love (CL) community to the world. They attempt to infiltrate CL boards by pretending to be fellow CLs or even male and female teenagers. Several people have already been exposed by PJ because they were careless with their real life (RL) information either on a CL forum, or in off board contact via email or IM with a decoy.

Vigilantes like PJ are in fact more dangerous than law enforcement; cops are only interested in you if you break the law, and it is easy to avoid them by strictly staying legal; these vigilantes want to out you and destroy your life (and that of your family) just because you post on a CL board. They do not care if you obey the laws or not, they do not even care if you are a CL yourself or just someone posting, more or less sympathetically, on a CL board.

The GC Committee feels that it is yet again time to remind our posters that they cannot be too careful when it comes to sharing personal, RL information with any member of this community. If you chose to have email or IM contact with posters from GC, please remember the following:

Always use a secure and anonymous email account during any off board contact with another poster, so you do not reveal your Internet Protocol (IP) address and thus your location and possibly your identity.

Never sign up for any personal sites like myspace or facebook using an email address that you also use for sites like GC. This is the number one way Perverted Justice tracks down people, by doing google searches using a posters GC email address. If you are careless, your email address will lead them to a RL blog or personal web page and you will then be exposed.

Never reveal your actual location, real name, or other identifying details to someone unless you are fully prepared for that information to be made public. In fact, if you do reveal such information, expect it to be shared with local law enforcement agencies and Perverted Justice immediately.

Be especially careful with people who claim to be underage, and certainly never offer to meet a minor that you know only on the internet in real life. In fact, we highly recommend that our posters simply avoid as much contact as possible with minors off the CL boards. It is just very easy to let down your guard and share RL information with a well trained decoy [note: This has happened to more than one poster here].

Never trade any form of material with someone off board, no matter how legal you think it may be. Even if totally legal, such material could contain trojans, viruses or spyware. Never admit to any illegal or potentially illegal activities to any person online. (Note: We do not think our posters do anything illegal).

We would also like to remind our posters that just because someone makes a youtube video claiming to be a pedophile, or that they support pedophiles, does not mean that person can be trusted. Perverted Justice has many young looking decoys, who could easily record youtube videos of support in an attempt to gain the trust (and personal information) of posters at the various CL boards. Please do not make such videos yourself in response to these "support" videos. Exposing your face to the world is as good as posting your real life name. Please use extreme caution if you have any contact with those individuals. Some of them may very well be actual teens who are pedophiles or pedophile supporters. That is irrelevant. Do not share real life information with them under any circumstances.

We expect our posters to understand how serious this is. This is not a game, this is your life. PJ will call your home. They will call your family and friends. They will call your job. They will spread fliers all over your neighborhood exposing you as a "child rape advocate", simply because you post on this forum. Eichenwald contacted Berry anonymously on-line, telling Berry he was a songwriter (Eichenwald writes songs as a hobby) and asking to meet with him. Eichenwald requested demonstrations of the workings of Berry's online business which Berry provided, including live conversations with subscribers. After Berry revealed the identities of children who were being exploited by adults, Eichenwald persuaded him to discontinue the business and turn his information about those minors over to the authorities.<ref name=ThroughHisWebcam />

Federal authorities have since learned that only one minor was actively being abused at the time Berry was negotiating with them, and that abuse was committed by Berry himself<ref name=CounterPunch />. Eichenwald subsequently won awards for his reporting on this subject, including the prestigious [[Payne Award for Ethics in Journalism]]. ==Current Usage==

These distinctions in the usage of the term, which were historically more clearly demarcated, have in the last few decades become blurred to the point where it is no longer possible to be sure what kind of acts took place with any term. With the move during the eighties, spearheaded by victim's rights groups and certain feminist organization, to blur the lines between (for example) violent rape and slightly different behaviours such as "date rape," "statutory rape," and even simple day-after regrets, many people use the terms "child sexual abuse," "child molestation" and "rape" interchangeably. Proponents of this melding of terms indicate that it helps us to see unwanted sexual acts of all types for what they really are--that is, acts of coercive sex--and to avoid minimizing the seriousness of certain acts simply because they may not have involved overt physical violence.

Despite the definition (and assumptions that literal-minded speakers would make about the term "abuse"), in current usage, very rarely is the issue of consent or coercion relevant to the term any more. That is to say, given the modern assumption that no child is capable of consenting to sexual activity, any instance of sex with a child is considered child sexual abuse, regardless whether or not the child consented, desired or even sought the act.

As such, the term can now be used to apply to any interaction with a child that has, or can be interpreted by others to have, sexual overtones, regardless of the desires of the child. In this vein the term is used by some as interchangeable with "pedophilia."

==Real Child Sexual Abuse==

The fact that many people use the term to cover situations which no longer bear any reference to the consent of the child should not be used to discount the seriousness of acts of "real" child sexual abuse, that is, abuse which fulfils the first definition of the term given above: non-consensual or coerced sexual activity. Listeners and readers of the term today are often caught in the delicate position of having to decide between two conflicting assumptions: that the "child sexual abuse" wasn't really a harmful act, and risk ignoring the needs of a child who has truly been victimized, or that the abuse was a harmful coercive act, and risk ignoring the desires of a child who willingly consented in a mutually beneficial relationship. This lack of precision is a distressing consequence of the aforementioned blurring of terms.

Victims of genuine non-consensual or coercive sex acts often need counselling and suffer from serious psychological after-effects from their ordeals in exactly the same way that adult rape victims can. It is important that children in this position receive the help they need, and it is also important that the perpetrators of such acts are identified in order to prevent them from harming other children.

Unfortunately, the same lack of precision in current usage sometimes means that children who consented to mutually desired sexual acts are often treated as though they were victims and in many cases, after the fact, come to believe it. Likewise, the adults involved in such interactions are treated exactly as if they were violent rapists as well, suggesting that in the long term, the treatment of consensual acts as synonymous with non-consensual ones leads to many of the same consequences as a genuine non-consensual act, except that the consequences are now iatrogenic in origin.

==Child Molestation==

Child molestation is used to refer to any action that violates a legal prohibition against sexual contact with children. Some applicable laws specifically use the term child molestation, while other laws use various terms such as lewd and lascivious acts or sexual conduct with a minor.

Some jurisdictions prohibit contact with certain areas of a child's body (such as the genitals), but make exceptions for situations such as medical examinations or bathing. Other jurisdictions have chosen to focus on motivations rather than specific actions. Those areas tend to have laws that prohibit any contact with a child when it is believed that the contact is for the purpose of sexual gratification.

Laws of the latter category are often considered to be more onerous, since they require a judge or a jury to make a determination about the defendant's motives, rather than simply to decide whether or not the defendant touched a particular part of the child's body.

A man in California was imprisoned under the state's motivation-based child molestation law for sucking on a boy's toes. While his conduct was clearly very sexualized and arguably inappropriate, the decision nonetheless raised concern among many boylovers, since the man's actions did not involve any contact with the traditional "private parts." More alarming still was the testimony of one expert witness in the trial, who suggested that a person could be subconsciously sexually aroused while touching a child, thereby committing a crime without even being aware of it.

===Incidence in pedophile and non-pedophile populations===

In the United States, the incidence of child molestation crimes has been estimated at a rate of 6.25 crimes per 1000 individuals per year for the population of pedophile males (or minor-attracted males; sources are not clear on this), and 1.5 crimes per 1000 individuals per year for the population of heterosexual males. This article further fuelled the censorship and intimidation attempts and a host of conservative organizations and journalists took the role of watchdogs, ready to denounce what they considered as "[[Socially Inappropriate|innapropriate]] research".

From 1997 to date their targets included:

* [[Chris Brand]], professor of psychology at Edinburgh University who lost his position in 1997 after publicly defending Nobel Prize winner physicist Daniel Gajdusek whom was facing a sentence for sexual relations with a boy.

* David Buchanan, barrister in New South Wales, Australia, Richard Guilliatt, senior Writer in Sydney Morning Herald, Lex Watson, senior Lecturer in Government in University of Sydney and others whose papers were "purged" from Australian Insitute of Criminology publication Paedophilia: policy and prevention (1997). In their papers, Buchanan, Guilliatt, Watson and others challenged conventional wisdom regarding recovered memories of child abuse, sex between adults and adolescents, and the age of consent.

* Ellis Hanson, professor of English at Cornell University who has been teaching a course on “The sexual child”. In 1998, "Accuracy in Academia", a conservative group that, according to its mission statement “wants schools to return to their traditional mission-the quest for truth” called Cornell University to cancel the teaching of the course. Their evidence against Hanson was only their highly innacurate reading of the course's syllabus.

* [[Bruce Rind]], from Temple University, [[Robert Bauserman]], psychologist at the State of Maryland and [[Philip Tromovich]] a (then) PhD student, after the publication of Rind et al. (1998) article in American Psychological Association journal Psychological Bulletin. After the National Association for Research and Treatment of Homosexuality denounced the study in their website, radio-host Laura Schlessinger attacked the article as being "junk science" and finally, the U.S. Congress unanimously condemned the scientific article. Rind et al. (2000, 2001), however, exposed the political motivations of their critics and Lilienfeld (2002) identified the multiple errors of analysis, reasoning, and logic evident in the arguments of many of the more vocal of their public critics. In addition, one of the two congressmen whom abstained from condemning the article explained why the condemnation was ridiculous (Baird 2002).

* [[Bruce Rind]], from Temple University (again!) for his article "Pederasty: An Integration of Cross-Cultural, Cross-Species, and Empirical Data" in a special 2005 issue of the Journal of Homosexuality. The article was accepted for publication and appeared in the pre-publication list but was later withdrawn after pressure to its publisher, Haworth Press. In addition to the attacks to particular scientists and researchers, science came under attack when the Brongersma Foundation archive was seized by the Dutch police in 2000.

* [[Harris Mirkin]], Associate Professor of Political Science (University of Missouri, Kansas City) for publishing his article "The Pattern of Sexual Politics: [[Feminism]], [[Homosexuality]] and [[Pedophilia]]," in Journal of Homosexuality in 1999. The Missouri House of Representatives voted 102-29 to eliminate professor Harris Mirkin's salary from the higher education budget in the coming year.

* The late [[Vern Bullough]], Distinguished Professor of State University of New York and Emeritus Professor of California State University was attacked for being in Paidika's editorial board (Bullough 2000).

* [[Judith Levine]] for her book Harmful to minors: the perils of protecting children from sex (2002). The book was turned down by several publishers, due to its controversial topic but finally was published by the prestigious University of Minnesota Press. The book was denounced by several religion fundamentalists months prior to its publication. Robert Knight the spokesperson of the anti-homosexual, anti-evolution and anti-abortion propaganda organization “Concerned Women for America” threatened that “if the Regents of the University of Minnesota do not act quickly to fire those responsible, the people of Minnesota and their elected representatives should move quickly to replace them.”

* Scott O. Lilienfeld, professor of psychology at Emory University for his article "When Worlds Collide: Social Science, Politics, and the Rind et al. (1998) Child Sexual Abuse Meta-Analysis". When Lilienfeld submitted the manuscript to American Psychologist (a journal of the American Psychological Association), the journal's editor overruled the ad hoc editor and its decision to publish the article because it did contain much criticism he personally didn't like. Under pressure from the scientific community, the article was eventually accepted for publication.

* The late [[Ralph Underwager]], psychologist member of the [[False Memory Syndrome Foundation]]. Ralph Underwager was attacked for giving an interview which was published in Paidika: The Journal of Paedophilia and was presented by reporters as "a known pedophile".

* [[Richard Yuill]], who was awarded his PhD in Sociology from Glasgow University in December 2004. His research topic “Male adult-youth relationships in the United Kingdom” Scottish Mail on Sunday and the Scottish edition of News of the World tabloid published articles slanting him. Glasgow University decided to place his PhD dissertation on a 5-year access ban. Radical conservatives have even described Yuill as a "moral cretin".

* YouTube is now firmly embedded in its policy of removing politically controversial content regarding [[adult-child sex]] and [[pedophilia]], either by per-video censorship or complete removal of accounts. However, due to the size of the website, some have been allowed to prosper. * [[Chris Brand]], professor of psychology at Edinburgh University who lost his position in 1997 after publicly defending Nobel Prize winner physicist Daniel Gajdusek whom was facing a sentence for sexual relations with a boy.

* David Buchanan, barrister in New South Wales, Australia, Richard Guilliatt, senior Writer in Sydney Morning Herald, Lex Watson, senior Lecturer in Government in University of Sydney and others whose papers were "purged" from Australian Insitute of Criminology publication Paedophilia: policy and prevention (1997). In their papers, Buchanan, Guilliatt, Watson and others challenged conventional wisdom regarding recovered memories of child abuse, sex between adults and adolescents, and the age of consent.

* Ellis Hanson, professor of English at Cornell University who has been teaching a course on “The sexual child”. In 1998, "Accuracy in Academia", a conservative group that, according to its mission statement “wants schools to return to their traditional mission-the quest for truth” called Cornell University to cancel the teaching of the course. Their evidence against Hanson was only their highly innacurate reading of the course's syllabus.

* [[Bruce Rind]], from Temple University, [[Robert Bauserman]], psychologist at the State of Maryland and [[Philip Tromovich]] a (then) PhD student, after the publication of Rind et al. (1998) article in American Psychological Association journal Psychological Bulletin. After the National Association for Research and Treatment of Homosexuality denounced the study in their website, radio-host Laura Schlessinger attacked the article as being "junk science" and finally, the U.S. Congress unanimously condemned the scientific article. Rind et al. (2000, 2001), however, exposed the political motivations of their critics and Lilienfeld (2002) identified the multiple errors of analysis, reasoning, and logic evident in the arguments of many of the more vocal of their public critics. In addition, one of the two congressmen whom abstained from condemning the article explained why the condemnation was ridiculous (Baird 2002).

* [[Bruce Rind]], from Temple University (again!) for his article "Pederasty: An Integration of Cross-Cultural, Cross-Species, and Empirical Data" in a special 2005 issue of the Journal of Homosexuality. The article was accepted for publication and appeared in the pre-publication list but was later withdrawn after pressure to its publisher, Haworth Press. In addition to the attacks to particular scientists and researchers, science came under attack when the Brongersma Foundation archive was seized by the Dutch police in 2000.

* [[Harris Mirkin]], Associate Professor of Political Science (University of Missouri, Kansas City) for publishing his article "The Pattern of Sexual Politics: [[Feminism]], [[Homosexuality]] and [[Pedophilia]]," in Journal of Homosexuality in 1999. The Missouri House of Representatives voted 102-29 to eliminate professor Harris Mirkin's salary from the higher education budget in the coming year.

* The late [[Vern Bullough]], Distinguished Professor of State University of New York and Emeritus Professor of California State University was attacked for being in Paidika's editorial board (Bullough 2000).

* [[Judith Levine]] for her book Harmful to minors: the perils of protecting children from sex (2002). The book was turned down by several publishers, due to its controversial topic but finally was published by the prestigious University of Minnesota Press. The book was denounced by several religion fundamentalists months prior to its publication. Robert Knight the spokesperson of the anti-homosexual, anti-evolution and anti-abortion propaganda organization “Concerned Women for America” threatened that “if the Regents of the University of Minnesota do not act quickly to fire those responsible, the people of Minnesota and their elected representatives should move quickly to replace them.”

* Scott O. Lilienfeld, professor of psychology at Emory University for his article "When Worlds Collide: Social Science, Politics, and the Rind et al. (1998) Child Sexual Abuse Meta-Analysis". When Lilienfeld submitted the manuscript to American Psychologist (a journal of the American Psychological Association), the journal's editor overruled the ad hoc editor and its decision to publish the article because it did contain much criticism he personally didn't like. Under pressure from the scientific community, the article was eventually accepted for publication.

* The late [[Ralph Underwager]], psychologist member of the [[False Memory Syndrome Foundation]]. Ralph Underwager was attacked for giving an interview which was published in Paidika: The Journal of Paedophilia and was presented by reporters as "a known pedophile".

* [[Richard Yuill]], who was awarded his PhD in Sociology from Glasgow University in December 2004. His research topic “Male adult-youth relationships in the United Kingdom” Scottish Mail on Sunday and the Scottish edition of News of the World tabloid published articles slanting him. Glasgow University decided to place his PhD dissertation on a 5-year access ban. Radical conservatives have even described Yuill as a "moral cretin".
