O'Carroll is the 2nd and most well-known Chairperson of PIE, the Paedophile Information Exchange, a defunct activist, peer-support and lobbying group that existed in Britain until approximately 1984. O'Carroll has published "Paedophilia: The Radical Case" (1980), and numerous scholarly articles in academic journals. Like many in PIE during the 1970s, O'Carroll was left-leaning and identifies as a democratic socialist and equal opportunities feminist.
