RSO Activism
RSO activism refers to advocacy efforts aimed at reforming laws, policies, and public perceptions affecting Registered Sex Offenders (RSOs). RSO movement incorporates local groups of RSOs, their families and unregistered individuals who wish to abolish any form of restriction (registry or order) that distinguishes sex offenders from other classes of criminal. RSO activists focus on civil rights, legal fairness, evidence-based policy, and the reduction of social stigma for RSO and their families. Their goals include opposing lifetime registries, challenging residency and employment restrictions, and promoting rehabilitation and reintegration over punishment.
RSO activist initiatives have sometimes been reluctant to work with MAP counterparts, despite the early involvement of MAPs such as Tom Reeves (under a pseudonym), and large number of RSOs who are attracted to minors.
