The controversy took place over a number of days on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) in September, 2024, when the meeting was meant to be taking place at an undisclosed campsite in Vermont. However, no physical meeting took place at the location reported by media as being the likely venue, after there was outcry over its proximity to a school. This led to at least two meetings being held within the local community, and new boundaries being drawn between the school and the campsite.

MAP Camp (formerly at mapcamp.net) was a meeting of MAPs in 2024 that led to public outcry over speculation as to its location in Vermont, US. It was planned by MEDAL, prior to being administered and organized by a private individual within the MAP Community.

MAP Camp is an example of Freedom of Assembly as part of a MAP Rights agenda in the US. Mu (unrelated to MAP Camp) attempted to defend those rights in the wake of the controversy, and was quoted in national media after issuing defenses of the event.
