Alice Day is a holiday celebrated by girllovers every 25th April. Its inception is sometimes credited to AP.
This holiday was created to celebrate the life of Alice Liddell and the bond between her and Lewis Carroll (aka Charles Dodgson).
Lewis met Alice when she was four years old on April 25th, 1856. Over the years, Lewis often took Alice and her sisters on numerous picnics and boat rides. During these times he'd tell them stories. It is believed by some that Alice inspired his famous story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Controversy
In 2023, Alice Day was subject of a public controversy, after the pro-paraphilia and youth-lib influencer ZeebDemon tweeted about it, proposing a "YAP Flag".[1][2][3]
In 2018, an ABC affiliate ran a scare story on Alice Day, featuring Pedobear, claiming without support that this was somehow a ruse for sex traffickers.[4]
Earlier in 2015, Snopes had attempted to "debunk" the holiday after it blew up on Facebook, but got facts about it seriously wrong. As well as accidentally naming an anti blogger after a well-known pedophile activist, Snopes attempted to declare the holiday nonexistent on the basis that the FBI does not take it seriously.[5]
In 2013, Anonymous attempted to protest the observance by attacking the website of NAMBLA, seemingly oblivious to the fact that Alice Day is a holiday for Girllovers.[6]
Some MAPs have objected to the holiday due to concerns around the ethics of Lewis Carroll's behaviour, although they remains in a small minority.[7]
