Suggested rationale from originator - Jim Burton (added 2024):
As per previous variants of the design, the different parts of the flag are said to represent unifying goals of the movement. Our initial concern is the unification of all MAPs, but we then seek to politically unify MAPs with Young People and potential allies in Civil Society:
◆ The central white stripe represents peace and unity between different parts of the community. The inclusion of two previous designs in a single concept also emphasizes these goals. Peace may also include an unwillingness to offend, where said offenses are harmful, i.e. a violation of consent, free choice or otherwise a threat to the progress of our movement.
◆ The yellow stripes represent liberty, and a move towards the greatest possible freedom of choice, for both MAPs and Young People - including AAMs and Minor MAPs.
◆ Thered and blue stripes represent both MAPs and Young People of differing life stages, and of more masculine or feminine gender identities/personal features. They may also be seen as representing attractions between one or the other.
