__NOTOC__It is now widely understood that a social media-driven mass-hysteria over the "normalization" of pedophilia took place in 2022, and that this hysteria was in some ways distinct from previous and later examples of normalization panic, and largely confined to Twitter. The catalyzing events for the hysteria were the late 2021 controversy surrounding Allyn Walker and Prostasia Foundation, rise of groomer-libel, and earlier social media fallout involving the MAP Flag and right wing false-flag attacks.

Scapegoating of the (by then faltering) Biden Administration on a social network (Twitter) undergoing a hostile right-wing takeover provided the perfect backdrop for this publicity, and temporarily reduced the chilling effect of censorship. Organized activity from MAPs and MAP Movement entities, primarily PCMA, undoubtedly added many millions of impressions to the spread of this hysteria, and its effects live on in the form of social memes and myths that circulate among American conservative and global conspiracy groups.
Scapegoating of the (by then faltering) Biden Administration on a social network (Twitter) undergoing a hostile right-wing takeover, provided the perfect backdrop for this publicity. Moderation challenges on the Twitter platform (whose staff were still liberal leaning at the time) temporarily reduced the chilling effect of censorship, allowing MAP activists to attack the subject more freely. Organized activity from such MAPs and MAP Movement entities, primarily PCMA, undoubtedly added many millions of impressions to the already impressive publicity. The 2022 mass hysteria's effects live on in the form of social memes and myths that circulate among American conservative and global conspiracy groups, influencing the present debate on LGB and Trans issues and inclusion.

The hysteria is notably distinct from immediate previous examples of normalization panic, since it a) focused on a succession of real targets (rather than false flags), and b) increased in velocity to unprecedented levels. It is notably distinct from later examples, because it used original targets, of whom there were plenty in that year, rather than recycled material.
The hysteria was notably distinct from prior examples of pedophile normalization panic, since it a) focused on a succession of real targets (rather than false flags), and b) increased in velocity to unprecedented levels. It is also notably distinct from later examples, because it was repeatedly influenced by original targets (of whom there were plenty in that year) rather than recycled material as is common in the late 20s.

Since the Walker controversy, it has been that a new wave of the moral panic surrounding child sexuality and pedophilia has been forming. While previous peaks in the megacycle have involved prostitution/social hygiene, queer sexual deviates/abductors, and then familial/institutional abusers, the modern fork is said to be characterized by social "degeneracy" and a descent towards its normalization.

Instigators and targets
There were distinctive instigators and targets in the 2022 hysteria, while late 20s normalization panics tend to be based on the sharing of "common knowledge" within groups. Very few of the instigators referred to every target in their attacks, and some of the instigators were themselves targets.

Since Walker, multiple social and mainstream media-driven controversies have taken place in relation to the "normalization" of "pedophilia", or the fork towards Minor Attracted People. In 2022, "Minor Attracted Person" began to trend well ahead of the predominant 20th Century equivalent key-phrases such as NAMBLA on most social media.

In late August 2021, Noah Berlatsky roused the ire of conservatives (Andy Ngo chiefly among them) and some liberals on social media, following his appointment as communications director at Prostasia Foundation. By November, Allyn Walker had faced widespread social media and mainstream media outrage after participating in an interview with Prostasia, advocating for humane treatment for people with an attraction to minors, and using the term "Minor Attracted Person" to that effect. Their controversy is documented in their article. Libs of TikTok was a crucial amplifier of the Walker controversy, a role they were to play throughout the following year, along with Gays Against Groomers , who formed mid-way through 2022.

January
In January of 2022, the media outlet USA Today was the subject of their own social media controversy, following an article many conservatives felt attempted to "justify pedophilia". This again, led to the familiar FOX News "panel discussions".

February
Stephen Kershnar attracted wide opprobrium on social media after appearing to defend minor-adult sex as not being inherently wrong outside a moral framework. Regressive-conservative Twitter influencer, LibsofTikTok was particularly important in amplifying this story, although it appears that her target was himself a libertarian.

March
A PCMA operative provoked Jordan Peterson, and similar by the Canadian culture-war icon over the coming months.

April
David Finkelhor was involved in a familiar Libs of TikTok-enabled social media controversy over comments made during a video forum the previous month. Commentators were completely oblivious to Finkelhor's historical role as a sexual victimologist, painting him as an out-of-touch ivory tower academic and pedophile apologist.

In this month, PCMA also had considerable success, with their at the time admin and Newgon editor, Jim Burton initiating a 2-day "firestorm" of over 2M impressions across a range of social groups in the US and UK. He did this by running two accounts, one impersonating a fake pro-MAP academic, and the other a fictional gay media figurehead in the UK, creating the impression that powerful MAP apologists were openly organizing and pouring scorn on their opponents. He later produces screenshots to show how this was done using a tagging method (, , ).

June
Nelson Maatman (a MAP Activist) had been arrested in Mexico, leading to widespread media and social media coverage. NGOs such as Operation Underground Railroad began to interact with the MAP Movement.

July
The regressive feminist influencer and hoax artist "Posie Parker" claimed that she had been questioned by police about being "untoward about paedophiles" in a video. She was not arrested.

August
Karl Andersson (a publisher and academic) was involved in a social media outrage with Twitter conservatives and radical feminists, surrounding a peer reviewed journal article, written for Qualitative Research. This article concerned the topic of Shotacon, or drawn images of boys in sexual situations.

Almost simultaneously, and as documented in Minor Attracted Person, a controversy erupted surrounding a video made by Miranda Galbreath, a licensed Sex Therapist who was attempting to challenge the stigma on MAPs (and using the term herself).

Also in August, Radical Conservative Feminists inspired a social media controversy centering on Virtuous Pedophiles and their newly-recruited social-media manager's claim to have been leaving written letters in UK libraries. This eventually led to the organization's banning from Twitter.

September
As detailed in Minor Attracted Person, the Texas High School Teacher Amber Parker, went viral on social media after she was filmed appearing to defend the idea of "MAPs" (as opposed to pedophiles - see our on the subject). This incident was amplified on Twitter by Gays Against Groomers (a conservative radical feminist front group), TX Governor Greg Abbott and Matthew Kolken among others. The comments were said by students, parents, Parker's husband and a school administrator to have been taken out of context. She was later fired from her job.

London's Newham Council was also slated on social media for allowing a leaflet advertising a queer hangout event for 9-25 year olds.

Again in mid-September, stating a case for leniency in a sentencing memorandum, R Kelly's attorneys made several technical arguments about the Chicago federal case but admitted to repeated sexual encounters with the testifying victims when they were underage. Arguing for mitigation, the memorandum included a passage written by expert witness Dr. Renée Sorrentino arguing that Kelly is not a pedophile. Sorrentino was criticised in the media for publishing a paper in which he argued "Minor Attracted People" were a neglected population, a major search result in Google.

In late September, perhaps unaware of the global controversy, Spanish parliamentarian, Irene Montero stated that children "have the right to know that they can love or have sexual relations with whoever they want. ===October===

In early October, 2022, Jacob Breslow suffered a social media and mainstream media firestorm over positions advocated in his academic works and his position as a trustee of Mermaids, a charity for transgender youth. This included his use of the term "Minor Attracted Person", and even caught the attention of J.K. Rowling, a prominent TERF. He was officially exonerated but left his post under a year later.

In late October, 2022, James Cantor was removed from the list of witnesses at a hearing on "gender-affirming care" for trans youth. The justification used (this time by liberals on Twitter) was his advocacy for pedophilia. In late November 2022, Balenciaga (a fashion brand owned by Kering) were caught in a further such rumpus following adverts that featured a BDSM-gear-festooned teddy bear and a small child, along with allusions to the relaxation of child pornography laws.

December
French cartoonist Bastien Vivès faced a petition of 100,000 signatures calling on the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival to revoke his invitation to participate the gathering. Among the criticisms were "displaying incestuous and pedophile images and scenes" and the promotion of "rape culture". The festival announced that it was forced to cancel his appearance, citing "physical threats" online against Vivès that could put both the cartoonist and festival goers at risk, as reported by Le Figaro.

February 2023 saw further success for PCMA, with a involving the MAP Flag drawing in 2M impressions. A MAP/Transage person unaffiliated with the group, similarly attracted 3M impressions for a social ostracism drawing on the adjacency between transage people and MAPs.

With over a million followers, Libs of TikTok were the primary instigator of the hysteria

It is now widely understood that a social media-driven mass-hysteria over the "normalization" of pedophilia took place in 2022, and that this hysteria was in some ways distinct from previous and later examples of normalization panic, and largely confined to Twitter. The catalyzing events for the hysteria were the late 2021 controversy surrounding Allyn Walker and Prostasia Foundation, rise of groomer-libel, and earlier social media fallout involving the MAP Flag and right wing false-flag attacks.

Background

Since the Walker controversy, it has been theorized that a new wave of the moral panic surrounding child sexuality and pedophilia has been forming. While previous peaks in the megacycle have involved prostitution/social hygiene, queer sexual deviates/abductors, and then familial/institutional abusers, the modern fork is said to be characterized by social "degeneracy" and a descent towards its "normalization".

Gays Against Groomers were a major antagonist in the hysteria, forming mid-year

Instigators and targets

There were distinctive instigators and targets in the 2022 hysteria, while late 20s normalization panics tend to be based on the sharing of "common knowledge" within groups. Very few of the instigators referred to every target in their attacks, and some of the instigators were themselves targets.

Primary Instigators

 • Libs of Tiktok (social media account)
 • Gays Against Groomers (social, activist group)
 • Social influencers such as Andy Ngo, Charlie Kirk, Jordan Peterson, Jack Posobiec (all right-wing)
 • Twitter.com and Elon Musk (owners of the most influential social media platform, his takeover was confirmed late in the year)
 • MAP Activists on Twitter.com
 • The MAP Activist groups PCMA and Newgon

Primary Targets

 • Allyn Walker (academic) and Prostasia Foundation
 • Jacob Breslow (academic)
 • Amber Parker (conservative High School teacher from Texas mistaken for a MAP sympathizer)
 • Balenciaga (fashion label implicated in normalisation)
 • Police Scotland
 • MAP Activists on Twitter.com, including alters of PCMA members
 • The US Democratic Party (by false association)
PCMA, among other MAPs, were a major instigator in the controversy

Since Walker, multiple social and mainstream media-driven controversies have taken place in relation to the "normalization" of "pedophilia", or the fork towards Minor Attracted People. In 2022, "Minor Attracted Person" began to trend well ahead of the predominant 20th Century equivalent key-phrases such as NAMBLA on most social media.

In the run-up to 2022 - Walker controversy

In late August 2021, Noah Berlatsky roused the ire of conservatives (Andy Ngo chiefly among them) and some liberals on social media, following his appointment as communications director at Prostasia Foundation.[1] By November, Allyn Walker had faced widespread social media and mainstream media outrage after participating in an interview with Prostasia, advocating for humane treatment for people with an attraction to minors, and using the term "Minor Attracted Person" to that effect. Their controversy is documented in their article, and became a network event, including pieces from local news outlets, panel discussions and Tucker Carlson/Laura Ingraham at the national level.[2][3] Libs of TikTok was a crucial amplifier of the Walker controversy, a role they were to play throughout the following year, along with Gays Against Groomers , who formed mid-way through 2022.

January

In January of 2022, the media outlet USA Today was the subject of their own social media controversy, following an article many conservatives felt attempted to "justify pedophilia".[4] This again, led to the familiar FOX News "panel discussions".[3]

March

A PCMA operative provoked Jordan Peterson, received over 1M impressions and similar legacy mentions by the Canadian culture-war icon over the coming months.

April

David Finkelhor was involved in a familiar Libs of TikTok-enabled social media controversy over comments made during a video forum the previous month.[5] Commentators were completely oblivious to Finkelhor's historical role as a sexual victimologist, painting him as an out-of-touch ivory tower academic and pedophile apologist.

In this month, PCMA also had considerable success, with their at the time admin and Newgon editor, Jim Burton initiating a 2-day "firestorm" of over 2M impressions across a range of social groups in the US and UK. He did this by running two accounts, one impersonating a fake pro-MAP academic, and the other a fictional gay media figurehead in the UK, creating the impression that powerful MAP apologists were openly organizing and pouring scorn on their opponents.[6] He later produces screenshots to show how this was done using a tagging method (1, 2, 3).

She was not arrested.[7]

Also in August, Radical Conservative Feminists inspired a social media controversy centering on Virtuous Pedophiles and their newly-recruited social-media manager's claim to have been leaving written letters in UK libraries.[8] This eventually led to the organization's banning from Twitter.

September

As detailed in Minor Attracted Person, the Texas High School Teacher Amber Parker, went viral on social media after she was filmed appearing to defend the idea of "MAPs" (as opposed to pedophiles - see our Press Release on the subject).

London's Newham Council was also slated on social media for allowing a leaflet advertising a queer hangout event for 9-25 year olds.[9]

Sorrentino was criticised in the media for publishing a paper in which he argued "Minor Attracted People" were a neglected population, a major search result in Google.[10]

In late September, perhaps unaware of the global controversy, Spanish parliamentarian, Irene Montero stated that children "have the right to know that they can love or have sexual relations with whoever they want. Based, yes, on consent", leading to outcry on social media. An AP fact check straightened out... not much at all by establishing that "Montero’s comments make clear that she said unwanted sexual contact between children and adults amounts to violence".[11][12]

October

In early October, 2022, Jacob Breslow suffered a social media and mainstream media firestorm over positions advocated in his academic works and his position as a trustee of Mermaids, a charity for transgender youth. This included his use of the term "Minor Attracted Person", and even caught the attention of J.K. Rowling, a prominent TERF. He was officially exonerated but left his post under a year later.

In late October, 2022, James Cantor was removed from the list of witnesses at a hearing on "gender-affirming care" for trans youth. The justification used (this time by liberals on Twitter) was his advocacy for pedophilia.[13]

Gays Against Groomers also initiated a popular outrage thread referring to a MAP publicity campaign that was the work of a PCMA operative, and condemnation of the associated website, Newgon.[14]

November

In late November 2022, Balenciaga (a fashion brand owned by Kering) were caught in a further such rumpus following adverts that featured a BDSM-gear-festooned teddy bear and a small child, along with allusions to the relaxation of child pornography laws.[15]

The festival announced that it was forced to cancel his appearance, citing "physical threats" online against Vivès that could put both the cartoonist and festival goers at risk, as reported by Le Figaro.[16] Much of the criticism was left-"progressive" slanted, focusing on the artist's supposedly reactionary background.

California Representative Katie Porter was also accused of normalizing pedophilia as an "identity" in a context-devoid social media firestorm fanned by Libs of TikTok, and bordering on a hoax.[17]

Jan & Feb 2023

In January 2023, Police Scotland and the European Union were hauled before the court of public opinion, after what appeared to be sympathetic use of the term "Minor Attracted Person" in official materials.[18] Despite the "standard" nature of this outrage, the story, and response from Police Scotland were viewed around 10 million times on Twitter alone.

A further controversy took place in Spain, concerning a TV series depicting an intergenerational relationship involving a 15-year-old girl. The Christian Lawyers Foundation insisted that the series be pulled.[19]

February 2023 saw further success for PCMA, with a meme involving the MAP Flag drawing in 2M impressions. A MAP/Transage person unaffiliated with the group, similarly attracted 3M impressions for a social ostracism meme drawing on the adjacency between transage people and MAPs.

One of the last majorly-effective PCMA psyops had began in the summer of 2022, but powered to over 2M impressions in Feb 2023. Burton was again involved, creating the fictional persona of a female "pagan witch" who taught in Californian middle and high schools, but was a supporter of MAPs and "progressive" teachings on young peoples' ability to consent. The rageposting it provoked led to a mention in Townhall and various online media.[20][21]

Later events in 2023

Throughout the preceding years, it had been a common taunt of Russian media and state officials, that "the west" is "normalizing pedophilia". In February 2023, President Vladimir Putin repeated these accusations in a rambling speech, one assumes, in a provocative attempt to force his opponents to defend initiatives such as the EU-funded 2PS project[22] and B4U-ACT, that has at times received state funding.[23]

As late as April of 2023, the MAP meme was still generating many millions of impressions, with the Alice Day/Youth Attracted Person controversy one outstanding example at over 15M impressions driven by QRTs by Anastasia Maria Loupis and Musk himself. It was at that point the hysteria began to die down, leading to a fossilization of major talking points, which are now commonly recycled by lesser right-wing influencers on a smaller scale. Joe Rogan was to set the tone for this fossilization of discourse, mentioning MAPs numerous times on his podcast in 2023.
